Stenton Wins JCR of the Year 2011 Award

Hard work and dedication to the JCR cause paid off tonight as Stenton Hall JCR was award the highly coveted JCR of the Year Award by Reading University Student\'s Union.
Outgoing President, Simon Combstock, said that the award was a "true reflection of the amazing work that has gone on the get Stenton JCR up to the forefront of other Common Rooms at the University."
Stenton Hall JCR began trading in September 2010 just shortly before the intake of students in following October. They have strived against all odds to try and make the most of the new hall. The JCR has put on a range of events throughout the year including but not limited to bar quizzes, formals and film nights throughout the year.
The committee has also brought into play the new and successful Portal Membership Platform giving members access to the their JCR Fees for the first time.
President Combstock further added "we have shown this year just a mere morsel of what is really possible; there is a lot of untapped potential in ever JCR and it is time for them to unlock it. Next year's JCR Committee could not becoming into this at a more exciting time: they have such a lot to look forward to and I wish them the very best of luck"
Double Victory for Stenton Execs at RUSU

Vice President Ben Haines and Treasurer Freddie Clifford both won big in last nights dramatic conclusion to the Reading University Students' Union Elections.
Treasurer Clifford's election to Student Trustee was the first to be announced that evening and repeated his stunning performance in the Stenton Hall JCR Elections by standing out as the clear front runner from the very start and won the election with the largest majority. Clifford's acceptance speech was commented as "a man of few words" from the presenter of the evening upon being so chuffed as to be left speechless.
Vice President Haines also saw similar success in his election to VP Democracy and Campaigns being elected in the first round seeing off the two other opponents with ease.
Clifford Elected President in Landslide Victory

Freddie Clifford, the incumbent Treasurer of Stenton Hall JCR, was elected in a landslide victory to President last night as the Executive and Officer Elections MMXI drew to a dramatic close. The election process has been running for the last four weeks in Stenton Hall and saw nineteen candidates come forward to run their JCR for the following year across the ten seats up for grabs.
Voting kicked off on Monday 14th February through the experimental Portal, Stenton JCR's online membership service and saw 138 people vote in the elections. The voting closed on Friday at 5pm with the results announced last night in Park Bar.
There was a surprise victory for Alice Carter in the Vice President Treasurer election winning by a comfortable thirteen votes over the current Ipsden Representative, Christopher Daly, who was favorite to win.
There were more surprises to be had in the Social Officer election as the power of the second preference saw Olivia Hamilton-Thomas elected to the second post over first round leader Toby Spark. The election ran into the full five rounds with Declan Higgins the first to achieve the quota and declared elected in the third round.
Those elected will take office from 27th April 2011.

Record Number of Nominations Received

Nominations for the Executive and Officer Elections MMXI closed on Friday with a record number of nominations being received. A total of 19 nominations were received across all of the positions and will see a number of contested elections.
The Returning Officer for the elections, Simon Combstock, could not comment on which positions were being contested but instead commented that the elections will "be one of the most exciting elections a JCR has ever seen."
The list of candidates is due to be published Tuesday 8th February at 9pm.
