What is it for?
JCR membership fees go towards the upkeep of our social areas and also fund amenities such as our Sky TV subscription, daily newspapers (both coming soon), regular social events, hall sports teams/equipment and games tables.
The fee is also used to organise our events such as Freshers' Week, The Snow Ball & The Summer Informal and members can expect a heavily subsidised ticket price to these events (sometimes these events are free!)
Members are welcome to use all of our facilities during the alloted opening times. The annual budget is usually presented at the first General Meeting of the Membership for discussion before formally adopted.
How Much?
The fee applicable to you depends on the type of residency agreement (the length of your stay) you have with the Hall. There is a discount for prompt payment. At present, the JCR fee is under review.
When and how can I pay my JCR fee?
JCR Membership fees can be paid upon arrival at Stenton Hall where the committee will be available to welcome new members and introduce them to the Hall. Members of the committee will be available during Freshers' Week and throughout the term to collect fees.
Please refer here, to e-mails and notices throughout the Hall for information from the committee about collections. We can accept either cash of cheque at our desk. Alternatively, we also accept PayPal payments on our website.
What are the benefits of becoming a member of the JCR?
As member of the JCR you can play a key role in making Stenton a great place to live for your stay there. You can enjoy :
- Subsidised entry to our events such the the Snow Ball and Summer Informal
- Daily newspapers subscriptions (The Times, The Guardian, The Sun, The Telegraph & many more...) - coming soon!
- Participate in our sports teams and competitions.
- Propose and submit motions to a General Meeting of the membership (make your ideas happen!)
- Stand for election as one of our Representatives (Autumn) or Officers (Spring)

I am living in Stenton for the full year. Can I pay termly?
You are required to pay for the maximum length of your stay upon arrival. Persons who are living in Stenton Hall for only part of the year pay a reduced fee in lieu of their shorter stay. Persons staying for less than a year have the same rights and oppourtunites as those staying the full year.
I will be leaving hall halfway through the term. Do I still have to pay for the full term?
No. The JCR fee is paid on a pro rata basis. Please contact treasurer@stentonjcr.co.uk for more information.
I am attached to Stenton and living in private accommodation. Do I still have to join?
Persons attached to Stenton may enjoy use of the common areas but are not entitled to attend events (except Freshers' Week) or stand for election to any post. In order to enjoy these benefits you can become an attached member of the JCR. At present, the Attached Member fee is under review but is not expected to be more than £10.
Is the JCR fee compulsory?
Yes. It is routine for all living in hall to join. The JCR fee pays for maintaining facilities, amenities, subscriptions and subsidised events for members. The University rules and regulations state that JCR fees are a comulsory fee if you are living in a Hall of Residence.
If you are living in private accomodation (i.e. not in Stenton Hall) then you are not required to pay the full fee. Everything we provide is for your benefit and if there is something that you would like us to provide that we do not currently, please contact us. We love to hear your ideas!
What will happen if I do not pay?
The full fee will be deducted from your battels deposit if the fee is not paid by the end of the Lent Term.
